According to a source with connections in the college football coaching profession, should June Jones take the Arizona State job as expected, SMU will make a run at Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris to fill its head coaching vacancy.
Morris agreed to a contract extension at Clemson this week. His new deal will pay him a reported 1.3 million dollars per year, making him one of the top paid assistants in college football. According to reports, Morris has not signed the contract yet.
**UPDATE** Arizona State has reportedly pulled its offer to June Jones.
Morris is in his first season running the Clemson offense. Prior to arriving at Clemson he was the offensive coordinator at Tulsa. Morris has ties to the state of Texas from his high school coaching days.
