DE Tyriq McCord of Tampa will take an official visit to Miami this weekend. That will be his second official visit. He was at USC for the Citadel weekend. Last weekend he took an unofficial visit to Florida. USC recruiter GA Mangus met with McCord Thursday according to his coach Jeremy Earle. “He met with the family at his younger brothers’ track meet I believe,” Earle said. “GA has done a great job of recruiting him.” McCord will also take official visits to Southern Cal, Georgia and Florida. His coach is in the dark about a favorite. “He’s got a poker face,” Earle said. “I can’t tell a lean. I can’t tell if he wants to commit early or maybe at the All American Bowl.” McCord, who also visited USC in the summer, is the cousin of Gamecock defensive lineman Aldrick Fordham.
USC committed TE Kelvin Rainey of Yulee, FL appears close to shutting down his recruiting after visits this week from USC and Arkansas. “At this point, I think it’s pretty solid he’s going to go to South Carolina,” Rainey’s coach Bobby Ramsay said Friday. “Arkansas is still in the game but on the fringes.” Arkansas recruiter Kris Cinkovich visited with Rainey early in the week. Thursday USC head coach Steve Spurrier along with assistants Steve Spurrier Jr. and Jay Graham met with Rainey. “The USC visit went really well,” said Ramsay who sat in on the meeting. “I think they firmed up how it’s going to be when he gets there in January and everything he can expect. It was the first stop Coach Spurrier made and he laid it out for Kelvin. He was impressed by it. Spurrier on your campus is a big deal. The fact it was the first stop he made says a lot about how they feel about Kelvin. South Carolina has done a good job of communicating with Kelvin and showing him the role they want him to play.” Ramsay said Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino might visit with Rainey next week. North Carolina also has made overtures but is not a factor. Rainey graduates early and plans to enroll in January.
USC running backs coach Jay Graham left Columbia Thursday night to travel to Raleigh where he will meet tonight with RB Keith Marshall. USC will be the third school to meet with Marshall this week. Clemson visited with him Wednesday and Florida was in on Thursday. Marshall made his official visit to USC for the Clemson game and spent a lot time over the weekend with Graham and Gamecock running back Marcus Lattimore. Something else also impressed him on his visit. “The “sandstorm” thing that South Carolina fans do with the towels is definately the hypest thing I’ve experienced during a football game,” Marshall tweeted. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and three of his assistants visited with Marshall Wednesday. Marshall later tweeted that “The Clemson in home went great.” Georgia gets the last visit with Marshall on Sunday. He plans to make his announcement at his school Tuesday at 2:45 PM.
Class of 2013 QB Connor Mitch (6-2 215) of Raleigh has offers from North Carolina, NC State and East Carolina and is hearing from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Maryland and Mississippi State. “I camped at Clemson this summer and I loved the campus,” Mitch said. “It was a good camp. They have great facilities.” After leaving the camp, he drove through Columbia to take a look at the USC campus. He went on to say that he is interested in all schools showing interest in him. Mitch was in attendance for the Alabama-LSU game this season and left with a good impression. “It was an amazing atmosphere,” he said. “I can’t describe how great it was. I talked to coach (Chris) Rumph after the game and he told me he had enjoyed watching me play. I had a good time there.” He also attended games at East Carolina, UNC, NC State, Maryland, Florida and Florida State. As a junior, the quarterback threw for over 3900 yards, had 51 touchdowns through the air and another four on the ground. Mitch does not have any favorites.

GARRETT LOVORN RHP 6-3 195 PENDLETON CLEMSON (2012)
PerfectGame.com review: Garrett Lovorn is a 2012 RHP/OF with a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Anderson, SC who attends Pendleton HS. Nice athletic frame, projects to get stronger. Standard leg raise delivery, 3/4’s arm slot, throws downhill well, works quickly. Mid 80’s fastball, topped out at 87 mph, have seen up to 89 mph this summer, cuts fastball frequently with good effect, cutter is a nice pitch. Good curveball spin and power, gets good 11/5 depth, occasionally change up. Simple swing mechanics, long and smooth swing, line drive swing plane with some late lift, ball comes off the barrel well. Excellent student.
