USC basketball coach Darrin Horn will put his team back on the floor Thursday night with a home game against Providence in the SEC/Big East Challenge. The Gamecocks are 2-4 this season. They have lost two straight, one to top ranked North Carolina and the other by three to Southern Cal. Both of those games were played in Las Vegas.
Horn said Wednesday that, even though they record might not indicate it, his team is getting better. He said the key now is getting everyone to put it together at the same time.
“For us to be good, we don’t need just one guy to be good,” Horn said. “We need everybody to do what they can do. The positive thing is we’ve seen signs of that from everyone we need to count on. The negative is we haven’t done it consistently enough.”
Horn said the return of Bruce Ellington from the football team will be a boost. Ellington led the team in scoring last season. Horn plans to bring Ellington off the bench tomorrow night.
“There’s no question about his talent level and what he’s capable of,” Horn said. Horn added he isn’t sure if Ellington will play football again next season and as of now they don’t know how much he will practice with the football team before the bowl game. The practice balance will be addressed when the Gamecocks find out where and when the will be bowling this weekend.
