Clemson continued the drive it started late in the first quarter mixing the run and the pass. Mike Bellamy had a 13 yard run, Andre Ellington had a 9 yard run, and Tajh Boyd hit Sammy Watkins for 10 yards. Boyd got the Tigers in the end zone with a 9 yard pass to tight end Dwayne Allen. With 11:32 left in the half, USC leads 10-7.
Clemson’s special teams came thru a few minutes later. USC was forced to punt and the snap to Joey Scribner-Howard was low. He mishandled it for a moment then tried to kick it. The ball was blocked by Drew Traylor and recovered by Clemson’s Chad Diehl at the USC 26. Ellington rushed for 16 yards to the Gamecock 10 on the next play. But the Gamecock defense held and forced a 37 yard field go by Chandler Cantanzaro. With 6:14 left in the half, it’s a 10-10 game.
USC retook the lead on its next possession driving 60 yards in 9 plays. The Gamecocks coverted fourth and two at on a seven yard run by Kenny Miles to Clemson’s 31. Connor Shaw then hit Alshon Jeffery for 11 yards to the 20. Three plays later Shaw scampered 15 yards for the go ahead touchdown. With 1:55 left in the half, USC leads 17-10.
