Little did the Tigers know at the time just how costly the loss to NC State would be.
Going into the game, Clemson was 7th in the BCS ranking. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Oregon all lost this weekend (Friday included). All were ranked ahead of Clemson. So, a Clemson win in Raleigh probably would have boosted the Tigers to 4th in the rankings. And with Arkansas or LSU set to take a loss Friday when they play, there was that chance to move up even more. B
ut the loss to the Wolfpack blew all of that up. And blew the Tigers down in the polls this week. They are 18th in the AP ranking and 17th in the Coaches Top 25.
As for USC, the win over The Citadel didn’t do that much. The Gamecocks remain 14th in the AP ranking and are up one to 13th in the Coaches poll.
LSU, Alabama and Arkansas are the top three teams in both polls. But the polls differ after the top three. Stanford and Oklahoma State are 4-5 in the AP, while the Coaches rank Virginia Tech 4th and Stanford 5th.
