State takes the lead early in the quarter after forcing a Clemson punt and starting at their own 39. James Washington broke off a 16 yard run and Mike Glennon hit George Bryan at the Clemson 26. A third down interference call on Bashaud Breeland kept the drive alive, and Glennon hit Bryan with an 11 yard TD pass. Bryan made a great catch over Tig Willard and dove to the pylon barely staying in bounds. The play was reviewed and upheld. With 11:35 to play in the half, NC State leads 7-3.
The Wolfpack defense made a big play on the next play. Tajh Boyd was hit from behind while attempting to pass and fumbled. State’s Terrell Manning recovered at the Clemson 6. Two plays later, Glenn hit Jay Smith in the back of the end zone with a 7 yard touchdown pass. With 10:33 to play in the half, NC State leads 14-3.
State came up with another fumble on Clemson’s next possession. First, a holding penalty wiped out a big pass play to DeAndre Hopkins and forced Clemson back deep in its territory. Then, Mike Bellamy mishandled the handoff on a reverse, and Manning recovered at the Clemson 18. State reached the Tiger 4 but the defense stiffened and forced a 21 yard field goal by Niklas Sade. With 7:26 left in the half, NC State leads 17-3.
Clemson was forced to punt from its end zone on its next possession after a quick three and out and TJ Graham returned it 34 yards to the Clemson 11. Tony Creecy later scored on a 4 yard run to make it 24-3 State with 4:58 left in the half.
Clemson was forced to punt again and State moved quickly from its 20 with two runs by Creecy and a 36 yard pass to Tobias Palmer to the Clemson 15. Sade then came on and hit a 32 yard field goal with :05 left in the half for a 27-3 State lead.
