For the first time since suffering a season ending knee injury at Mississippi State, USC running back Marcus Lattimore talked to reporters Tuesday. Lattimore is expected to have surgery to repair a torn ACL and other damage to his left knee later this week. Lattimore rushed for 818 yards prior to his injury averaging 116.9 yards per game. Even today, without the benefit of playing in all ten games, Lattimore would rank 5th in the SEC in rushing yards and 2nd in yards per game.
The Gamecocks face FCS member The Citadel Saturday in Columbia as they go for their 9th win of the season. Only two other Gamecock teams have won 9 games in a season. The Bulldogs beat the Gamecocks they last time they played, in 1990, with an option attack led by outstanding quarterback Jack Douglas. They are again using a triple option offense with two young quarterbacks at the helm. The Bulldogs have rushed the football over 500 times this season and have thrown it just 72 times.
Saturday’s game will kickoff at 12:00 PM and it will be televised across the state on a pay-per-view basis.
