Florida’s drive that carried over to the quarter fizzled out and the Gators were forced to punt. USC took over at its 13 and on first down Connor Shaw was injured on a one yard run. Bruce Ellington replaced him for the last two plays of the series. USC punted and Florida started at the Gamecock 49. Chris Rainey then broke off a 47 yard run to the two. Two plays later Jacoby Brissett ran in for the two yard touchdown. Brissett’s two point conversion pass was intercepted by Marty Markett. With 11:23 to play, USC leads 14-12.
The Gamecocks finally show some offensive life on the next possession. Connor Shaw hits Ace Sanders for 46 yards to the Florida 17. That pass equaled Shaw’s longest pass of the season. But the Florida defense stuffed three straight runs by the Gamecocks and Jay Wooten had to come on to kick a 27 yard field goal. With 9:14 left, USC leads 17-12.
Florida is not able to move past the Gamecock 45 on its next possession and punts to the end zone. USC then methodically moves down the field eating up the clock. The Gamecocks reach the Florida 48 and punt with :48 seconds to play.
Florida started its final drive on its own 11 with :42 left and no timeouts. The Gators reached their 42 but Jonathan Brantley was sacked by Travian Robertson on the final play of the game.
Final Score: USC 17-Florida 12
