Arkansas takes the opening kickoff and moves down the field, but a penalty on Cobi Hamilton for being the first to touch the ball after going out of bounds on a pass he caught inside the Gamecock 20 stalled the drive. The Hogs settled for a 44 yard field goal by Zach Hocker and a 3-0 lead with 11:33 to play.
After forcing a USC three and out on the Gamecocks’ first possession, the Hogs took over at midfield and moved into position for another field goal. But this time Hocker was wide left from 45 yards.
The Gamecocks then moved down the field for a 9 play, 72 yard scoring drive capped by a four yard run by Brandon Wilds, his first career touchdown. Three penalties on Arkansas, including a 15 yarder, helped the drive. Connor Shaw hit Alshon Jeffery for two completions and had a nice pickup on a run up the middle. With 2:28 left in the quarter, USC leads 7-3.
That lead lasted just a few seconds. Dennis Johnson took the kickoff at the two, broke free thru middle, veered to the right sideline and ran the rest of the way untouched for a touchdown to put Arkansas back on top 10-7 with 2:13 left in the quarter.
End of quarter…Arkansas 10-USC 7
