RB Keith Marshall of Raleigh has scheduled an official visit to Clemson for the Wake Forest weekend. And that will be his final official visit. “He wasn’t going to take one but he change his mind and decided to take one,” Marshall’s coach Clarence Inscore said. “They’ve been recruiting him pretty hard, so he’s going to go down to check them out.” Marshall also has taken official visits to Georgia, Florida and Notre Dame. He’s been to North Carolina unofficially a couple of times, and his coach said he will take an unofficial visit to USC before the season is over. Inscore said Marshall has an announcement date in mind. “It will be around the first week of December,” the coach said. He added Marshall has not indicated a favorite.
LB Rafael Kirby of Stone Mountain, GA has set an official visit with USC for November 19th when the Gamecocks play host to The Citadel. Kirby has been committed to Miami. He’s also been looking at Georgia and Vanderbilt for official visits along with Miami. Kirby plans to graduate early and will be making a final decision in December. Kirby’s teammate and USC DB commitment Kyle Fleetwood is working Kirby to join him in Columbia. “I’m still talking to him but I’m just letting him do what he thinks is best,” Fleetwood said. “He’s keeping his options open.” Fleetwood remains firm with his USC commitment but at the urging of his parents has scheduled an official visit to Vanderbilt for November 12th. “I’ve talked to Coach Ward and I’m 100% Gamecock,” Fleetwood said. “At the end of the day, that’s where I want to go.” Fleetwood’s Stevenson High team is 9-0. He has 5 interceptions returning two for touchdowns. And he’s also keeping a close eye on USC. “I think they are doing pretty well with the loss of the quarter and Lattimore,” he said. “The defense is playing some really tough games lately.” Fleetwood said he will take his official visit to USC in January.
USC is all of a sudden a factor with RB Todd Gurley of Tarboro, NC. At least publicly. “I’ve never said too much about them but I’ll probably take a visit down there,” said Gurley who has rushed for about 1700 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. “I talked to Coach Lawing about a week ago. It’s just the way they are playing and their running back situation. Lattimore is an outstanding running back and he’ll be a junior.“ Gurley has taken an official visit to Georgia and is hearing the most from the Bulldogs and North Carolina. They remain his top two. Clemson, NC State and Auburn are the others he’s looking at. Clemson recruiter Tony Elliott was at his school last Friday. Gurley said he won’t announce a decision until his all-star game January 3rd.
DB Elijah Shumate of Ramsey, NJ will visit USC on November 12th for the Florida game and is ready to go. “I cannot wait to get there,” Shumate said. “My cousin Sheldon Royster is there and we talk all of the time. He tells me how much he loves it.” USC commitment LB Kaiwan Lewis is also a friend of Shumate’s and the two speak often. “He is trying to get me to go there with him,” he said chuckling. His top six are USC, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Rutgers and Notre Dame in no order. Shumate would like to take all five official visits but has not decided which schools will get them. “I want my family to go with me and it’s not cheap to fly,” he said. “I’ve already been to Georgia Tech so I might not need to go back there. Rutgers is close so we could just go there on an unofficial visit.” He is not close to making a decision and does not have a favorite.
Quarterback Trey White of Atlanta has committed to The Citadel according to his coach Paul Standard. White is a three year starter. He’s rushed for 1907 yards and 21 touchdowns and has passed for 1518 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career.
