Tennessee started the fourth quarter with a first and ten on the USC 44. The Vols weren’t able to pick up a first down and ended up punting on 4th and 15 from the 49.
USC freshman running back Brandon Wilds passed the 100 yard rushing mark on the next possession. He also made his first major mistake, a fumble that Tennessee recovered on the Gamecock 28 yard line.
The turnover didn’t cost USC though. Justin Worley’s first down pass was intercepted by Stephon Gilmore in the end zone.
USC ended up punting on the ensuing possession and when the Vols took over Matt Simms replaced Justin Worley at quarterback. Simms was able to lead Tennessee to the USC 27 yard line before the Vols turned it over on downs.
USC took over on the Gamecock 27 with 6:33 left to play. The Gamecocks were able to drive deep into Tennessee territory and run out the clock and secure the win.
