Tech built its lead to 10-3 early in the quarter driving to the Clemson five thanks to a 46 yards run by Tevin Washington to the Clemson 25. before the drive stalled out. Justin Moore booted a 23 yard field goal with 12:01 left in the quarter.
After forcing a three and out from Clemson, Tech started another drive this time culminating with a touchdown. The Yellow Jackets drove 80 yards, all on the ground, with Orwin Smith running around the right side with a pitch for a three yard score. With 5:44 left in the half, Tech led 17-3.
The Yellow Jackets continued their second quarter domination on their next series. Clemson’s Chandler Cantanzero was wide left on a 40 yard field goal attempt. Tech started at the Clemson 22 and worked in a 44 yard pass to Stephen Hill that carried to the Tiger 10. Tevin Washington would score on a three yard run up the middle on a quarterback keeper for a 24-3 lead with :37 left in the half.
