The USC offense took another step back and this time it cost them. Stephen Garcia’s bizarre regression continued, the offensive line was suspect, even the normally stable Marcus Lattimore fumbled and was bottled up most of the game. Auburn scored a touchdown with 1:38 left in the game to secure a 16-13 win and slap the Gamecocks with their first loss of the season.
Steve Spurrier didn’t have an explanation for why his unit continues to struggle. He said he knows they need to make some changes but did not elaborate on what they might be. He said he wanted to look at the film before deciding. He didn’t say he was going to bench Stephen Garcia but he did close his press conference with this:
“We threw interceptions on second and one and first and ten. That’s not real smart. But we’re not real smart anyway, that’s why we got beat.”
USC will face Kentucky next week in Columbia. Kick off is at 12:21.
