For the first time in history, USC was voted to win the SEC East by the media attending SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL. The Gamecocks received 114 first place votes from the 167 votes cast. Georgia was picked second in the East with Florida third. Alabama was the choice to win the West as well as the overall championship. The Crimson Tide received 98 votes for the overall title. LSU came in second followed by Arkansas and USC.
USC had the third most players voted on to the pre-season All-SEC teams with 10. Alabama had 16 and Arkansas 14. USC receiver Alshon Jeffery, running back Marcus Lattimore and defensive back Stephon Gilmore were named to the first team. Quarterback Stephen Garcia and defensive linemen Devin Taylor and Travian Robertson were voted to the second team. And offensive linemen Rokevious Watkins and Kyle Nunn, defensive lineman Melvin Ingram and linebacker Shaq Wilson are part of the third team.
Georgia’s Aaron Murray was voted the first team quarterback.
