OL D.J. Humphries (6-6 275) of Charlotte attended the USC spring game and has the Gamecocks as one of his favorites. “They are in my top five, “Humphries said “It’s a silent top five.” He went on to say that Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee also made the list. He was at the Alabama spring game where he met with Nick Saban and other coaches. “Saban met with me in his office and shut the door,” he said. “He spent a lot of time talking to me.” Humphries has offers from each of his top schools as well as Clemson, North Carolina, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and Auburn. Humphries has over 30 offers in all. He noted that he does have some interest in Clemson classifying it as “medium”. “I like South Carolina a lot,” Humphries said. “I’ve got a good relationship with Marcus Lattimore. We even talked a bit after the spring game.” He did not name a favorite.
WR Alton Howard (5-9 170) of Orlando will narrow his list before the summer. “I think I will come out with my top five in about a month,” Howard said. “South Carolina will make it on that list.” Howard was at USC’s spring game and has been to Central Florida’s spring game since then. “I’m going to take some other visits but I haven’t decided on where I’m going,” he said. Howards may return to USC over the summer for a camp. His offers include USC, Southern Cal, UCLA, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia, Virginia, Purdue, and Utah. He did not name a favorite.
DL Noah Spence (6-4 240) of Harrisburg, PA has over 30 offers that include USC, Auburn, Florida, Southern Cal, Tennessee, NC State, Pitt, Penn State and Rutgers. He is considering a visit to USC this summer. “They just got a real good commitment on the defensive line (Jadeveon Clowney),” Spence said. “I like their defensive scheme and their coaches seem real down to earth.” He has visited Penn State, Maryland, Pitt, NC State and Rutgers saying, “you know, the schools that are close.” He would like to venture further from home over the summer for more visits but has not finalized any plans. As a junior, Spence compiled over 100 tackles, 34 for loss, 23 sacks and forced nine fumbles. He does not have a favorite.
USC has one commitment for 2012 from Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, GA and the Gamecocks are working for more. Lorenzo Ward recruits the school for USC and he’s targeting DB Kyle Fleetwood (6-0 195) as a safety prospect. Fleetwood said Ward was by the school Monday to check on him and other prospects. Fleetwood has offers from USC, Vanderbilt, LSU, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Ole Miss, South Florida, Southern Miss and Syracuse. He has been to USC and South Florida and plans a return trip to USC after his spring practice. He’s not claiming a favorite but USC, Vanderbilt and Louisville are high up on his list. He plans a July decision. Fleetwood plays strong safety and last season he had 42 tackles with 3 interceptions.
DB D.J. White (6-0 180) of McDonough, GA has offers from USC, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and South Florida. He is hearing from Georgia, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Alabama, Maryland, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech. “He is a good kid from a good family,” said his coach Paul Burgdorf. “He is going to make a great addition to any program and be a great football player.” Burgdorf is unsure of which schools White is interested in. “I don’t want to speak for D.J.,” he said. “I know he understands the recruiting process and he is going to take his time.” White has been on several visits, though Burgdorf could not confirm to where, and does have plans to attend several camps over the summer. White had three interceptions, 11 pass deflections, a fumble recovery and a punt returned for a touchdown in his junior campaign. He does not have a favorite, according to Burgdorf.
