Reed Charpia, one of the winningest football coaches in South Carolina history, is retiring as a head coach to join his son’s staff at Brookland-Cayce High School. Charpia said today he made the decision to retire as the coach at Woodland High after his son Rusty landed the head coaching job and the athletic director’s position at BC.
Reed Charpia has been a coach for 45 years. His head coaching stops include James Island twice, Irmo, Newberry College, Midland Valley, Marlboro County and Woodland. He won 235 games and one state championship.
Charpia said he will coach the offensive line at Brookland-Cayce.
