Tonight the College of Charleston will face Wichita State in an NIT quarterfinal matchup. This game features two coaches that are well known for having a change of heart during their careers.
We all remember Bobby Cremins famous switcheroo when he accepted the job at USC only to change his mind and return to Georgia Tech three days later. Wichita State coach Greg Marshall, then at Winthrop, pulled the same move when he took at job at Charleston and returned to Rock Hill the next day.
It has worked out pretty well for both coaches. Cremins has done well in Charleston and Marshall is averaging 20 wins per season in Wichita. Marshall is also being mentioned as a potential candidate for the head coaching jobs at Tennessee and N.C. State.
Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 in Wichita. It will be televised on ESPN2. The winner will advance to the semi-finals at Madison Square Garden next week.
