The College of Charleston baseball team has been tabbed the preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference by the league’s media. The Cougars won 44 games last year before their season ended with an NCAA Regional at Coastal Carolina.
After the Coguars, the Citadel is second in the poll. The Bulldogs received one first place vote. Elon was picked third and also received a first place vote. Georgia Southern and Western Carolina round out the top five in the poll.
Appalachian State was picked sixth, followed by Samford seventh and Furman at number eight. Wofford was 9th. UNC-Greensboro and Davidson were 10th and 11th respectively.
In the Coaches poll, Charleston was first, The Citadel was 5th, Furman was 8th and Wofford was tied for 9th.
College of Charleston senior outfielder Cole Rakar is the preseason player of the year. The Citadel’s Matt Talley is the preseason pitcher of the year.
