USC senior forward Sam Muldrow has been selected as the SEC player of the week. Muldrow put together a triple-double in the Gamecocks upset win over then 22nd ranked Vanderbilt Saturday in Columbia. Muldrow finished that game with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. On Tuesday of last week he had 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots in a win over S.C. State.
The 10 blocks Saturday were a school record and Muldrow is 34 blocks away from passing Brandon Wallace on the all-time blocked shots list.
Carolina freshman point guard Bruce Ellington earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors by averaging 17.5 points in the wins over S.C. State and Vandy. Ellington made five crucial three point shots in the second half of the win over the Commodores.
