Here is the second quarter summary of today’s Meineke Car Care Bowl:
South Florida started the second quarter with a second and goal at the Clemson seven yard line. The Tiger defense stuffed the Bulls on the next two plays forcing them to settle for a 27 yard field goal.
Drive summary: 4-1-1:41 10-3, USF
Despite the bad throw and subsequent interception in his previous drive, Kyle Parker was back in quarterback when the Tigers regained possession in the second. The unit went three and out.
South Florida took possession and marched right down the field. The Bulls did most of the damage through the air and the drive was capped by a 15 yard touchdown pass from B.J. Daniels to Dontavia Bogan. The Clemson secondary looked very venerable.
Drive summary: 9-64-4:15 17-3, USF
Clemson took its next possession and moved the ball to the USF 27 before the drive stalled. The Tigers faced a fourth and two and Dabo Swinney opted to send out Chandler Catanzaro to attempt a 44 yard field goal. Some fans booed but Catanzaro made the kick.
Drive summary 8-48-3:17 17-6, USF
Clemson regained possession courtesy of a USF fumble on its own 43 yard line. The Tigers took over with 1:20 left in the half. The Tigers, with Kyle Parker still in at quarterback, gained 38 yards on a fourth and seven play to get to the Bulls two yard line. Two plays later Jamie Harper took it in from a yard out to give Clemson its first touchdown of the game.
