Six college football coaches from the Carolinas representing the Big Two in South Carolina and the Big Four in North Carolina spoke to the Shrine Bowl teams Friday afternoon in Spartanburg at the annual luncheon put on by the Spartanburg Touchdown Club and held at the Marriott at Renaissaince Park.
USC’s Steve Spurrier and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney represented the Palmetto State. Speaking on behalf of their schools from the Tar Heel state were North Carolina’s Butch Davis, NC State’s Tom O’Brien, Jim Grobe of Wake Forest and David Cutcliffe of Duke.
Each coach spent about four minutes urging the players to stay focused to their goals, do the right things in life, and enjoy the game tomorrow.
Shrine Bowl activities continue Friday night with the annual banquet. Alabama head coach Nick Saban will be the guest speaker.
Saturday’s game will be played at Gibbs Stadium at Wofford with the kickoff set for 1:00 PM.
