Florida coach Urban Meyer announced Wednesday that he is retiring. Again. Only this time he seems like he means it. Meyer called last year’s move a “kneejerk reaction” and he seems much more at peace with his decision this year.
Meyer will coach the Gators in the Outback Bowl against Penn State and a coach that is not going to retire next season, one Joe Paterno. All indications are Meyer isn’t going to do an about face and show up for work again in Gainesville like he did last year. There are a few people that are still skeptical of Meyer’s future.
While Meyer said he has no plans to return at this time, Steve Spurrier is skeptical.
“I’m saddened that he is stepping down, but after stepping down for a few days last year, it’s somewhat understandable that he felt that this was best for him and his family,” Spurrier said. I believe he will coach again someday, but if he doesn’t, he will go down as one of the best coaches in college football history.”
