In his debut as Clemson head basketball coach, Brad Brownell was victorious as the Tigers defeated the Catamounts of Western Carolina 87-64.
The Tigers shot nearly 60 percent from the floor on the night and got a career-high from sophomore forward Devin Booker. Booker finished the night with 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting and added seven rebounds.
Milton Jennings had 14, Tanner Smith added 12, and Andre Young chipped in 10 as Clemson won its 26th consecutive opener.
The Tigers did struggle from the charity stripe, however, only converting 25 of 46 attempts. Clemson moves to 1-0 and will host another Southern Conference team on Monday night as the Wofford Terriers come to town. Wofford is 0-1 after losing their opener tonight at Minnesota. Game time is set for 7:00.
Following the game, Coach Brownell says he was pleased with the effort of his club.
Devin Booker had a career high.
Milton Jennings also had a good night.
Tanner Smith played like a leader, according to Brownell.
