We are just two days away from Clemson’s game at 15th ranked Auburn Saturday night. We didn’t get (Clemson) Tigers coach Dabo Swinney after practice Wednesday so I figured I would pass along his comments from the ACC conference call. You can listen to Dabo’s comments below.
Dabo keeps getting asked the same questions this week:
How will your team perform in a hostile environment? Dabo says they will be prepared for the 87,451 people screaming “WAR DAMN EAGLE!” every 7.9 seconds. It will be the largest crowd Clemson has ever played in front of, which is still amazing to me.
How much did you learn in the first two games? Dabo says playing a lot of guys the first two games was important for building depth later this season. The coaching staff was able to get real game evaluations on practically everyone on the roster.
Do you wish you had played a tougher team to prepare for Auburn? Dabo used the coaching cliché’ about “playing games in the order they come” during his press conference Tuesday. He says his team hasn’t faced adversity yet and you never really know what you have in a team until that happens. He says he knows his team will face adversity on Saturday.
Because of the recent struggles by ACC teams, is there extra motivation this week? Dabo says he isn’t worried about carrying the ACC banner. He wants to win for Clemson and for his program. That sounds great and is the right thing to say. His team already has enough pressure of playing an SEC team on the road, why add more? It goes without saying Dabo would like nothing more than to stick it to an SEC team. Given the fact he is an Alabama Crimson Tide alum, I’m sure Dabo has a special dislike for Auburn in particular.
