The Braves lost to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates Monday and now their lead in the N.L. East over Philadelphia is down to just ½ game. The Phillies split a Labor Day doubleheader against the Marlins yesterday.
Atlanta has had the division lead for since May 22nd and every time the Phillies have made a charge they’ve found a way to answer. Now, with the season winding down, the two time defending National League champions smell blood in the water.
Atlanta has lost four of its past five games but there is really no excuse for them not to get back on track against the Pirates. Calling Pittsburgh terrible is probably an understatement, they’ve only one 46 games and are on pace for their worst finish since a guy named John F. Kennedy was president. They have to win this series.
Tim Hudson will get the start on the mound tonight. First pitch is 7:05 at PNC Park. The Phillies are at home again tonight against the Marlins.
