North Greenville ended a 10-day search for a new football coach Thursday morning when the Crusaders named former VMI defensive coordinator Jeff Farrington to the position.

Farrington was previously a defensive assistant at Furman from 2002-2010, where he served as the Paladin defensive coordinator for his final season before going to VMI.  Furman reached the FCS Division I playoffs four times with Farrington on the staff, including reaching the national semi-finals in 2005.  He also served as defensive coordinator for East Tennessee State from 1997-2001.

Farrington said he is “excited and thrilled to be at North Greenville.  After being an assistant for a long time, this is the opportunity I’ve been looking for.”

VMI opponents averaged 30.7 and 31.9 points per game in 2011 and 2012, respectively, during Farrington’s stint with the Keydets, including 393.8 yards per game in 2011 and 406.4 in 2012.

Farrington said that he hopes “to be able to serve and lead the young men here at North Greenville in a way that everyone associated with the university will be proud.”
