Here’s a look at Clemson’s ACC crossover games for the next decade

Clemson knows the road it will travel in the ACC for the next 10 years.

Clemson knows the road it will travel in the ACC for the next 10 years.

Clemson fans can now look ahead and see all of their home and away ACC games for the next 10 years.  Tuesday the league office released the crossover opponents and the home and away slates for the next decade.  This gives Tiger fans a glimpse of what their schedule will look like for the foreseeable future, sans a couple of non-conference games that will be sprinkled in each year. Notre Dame is one of those non-conference games and the Irish are on the slate in 2015 in Death Valley. The Tigers and Irish will meet again after the 2015 season, but the exact year or years of those games won’t be known until later.

Here is what the ACC released today:

The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced all schools’ football rotating crossover opponents through the year 2024. For the foreseeable future, all ACC schools will play an eight-game conference schedule composed of six games against division teams, a permanent crossover division game and a rotating crossover game.

Clemson will play in the Atlantic Division along with Wake Forest, Boston College, Florida State, NC State, Maryland, and Syracuse in 2013. In 2014, Louisville will replace Maryland. Each year teams will have four home conference games and four away.

In 2014, North Carolina will come to Clemson as the Tigers crossover game. The following year Clemson will play at Miami (FL). In 2016, Pittsburgh will come to Clemson for the first time, and in 2017, the Tigers will travel to Blacksburg, VA.

Duke comes to Clemson in 2018 and the Tigers will travel to North Carolina in 2019. That will be just Clemson’s second trip to Chapel Hill in 17 years. The other was 2010.

Virginia comes to Clemson for the first time since 2009 when the Cavaliers travel to Tigertown in 2020. The Tigers will make their first trip to Pittsburgh in 2021. Miami (FL) will come to Clemson for the first time since 2005 when the Hurricanes play at Clemson in 2022. The Tigers play at Duke in 2023 and will play host to Virginia Tech in 2024, the Hokies first trip to Clemson since this past season.

The ACC just made next to impossible for any of its schools to leave

ACC LogoAnyone looking to pluck an ACC team for its conference expansion just hit a big snag. The conference that has been on shaky ground the past few years took a huge step in its stability today by announcing a signed grant of media rights from all 15 current and future members.

This agreement means that any school that leaves the ACC to join another conference will still have to pay the ACC all of its media rights for the next 14 years. Translation: No school is going to leave the ACC for another conference under this agreement.

This deal does not impact the legal proceedings between the ACC and Maryland. A court will determine if the Terps are on the hook for the buyout, but they will not be subject to lose their media rights.

Here is the official release from the ACC:

The Atlantic Coast Conference Council of Presidents announced today that each of the current and future 15-member institutions has signed a grant of media rights, effective immediately.

“This announcement further highlights the continued solidarity and commitment by our member institutions,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “The Council of Presidents has shown tremendous leadership in insuring the ACC is extremely well positioned with unlimited potential.”

“The ACC has long been a leader in intercollegiate athletics, both academically and athletically,” said the collective ACC Council of Presidents. “Collectively, we all agree the grant of rights further positions the ACC and its current and future member schools as one of the nation’s premier conferences.”

The ACC’s current and future 15-member institutions include:

  • Boston College
  • Clemson University
  • Duke University
  • Florida State University
  • Georgia Institute of Technology
  • University of Louisville
  • University of Miami
  • University of North Carolina
  • North Carolina State University
  • University of Notre Dame
  • University of Pittsburgh
  • Syracuse University
  • University of Virginia
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
  • Wake Forest University

About the Atlantic Coast Conference:
