Clemson and USC carried high expectations into their weekend series but both fell far short from meeting those expectations. The Tigers were swept by North Carolina in Chapel Hill and and the Gamecocks dropped their series against Kentucky at Founders Park, their fifth straight SEC series defeat.
North Carolina 3-Clemson 2 (10 innings)
With two outs and a runner on third, Tyler Lynn hit a slow grounder to second and Tiger second baseman Jordan Greene threw wide of first allowing the winning run to score. Chris Williams homered for the Tigers’ two runs. Two of the Tar Heels’ wins in the series were by one run. The Tigers fall to 34-11 and 16-8 in the ACC and drop 2.5 games behind Louisville in the Atlantic Division. They are off this week for exams and will host Nevada this weekend.

Kentucky 9-USC 4
The Wildcats scored three runs in the 8th off Gamecock closer Tyler Johnson to break open a 4-4 game. They added two more in the 9th to secure the victory and send the Gamecocks to another SEC series defeat. Three of the Gamecocks’ runs came on homers by Ross Grosvenor and John Jones. USC falls 4 games back of SEC East leading Kentucky. The Gamecocks are 25-17 and 10-11 in the SEC. They host Wofford Wednesday.
