Easter weekend meant a lot of baseball wrapped up on Saturday to make way for the holy day, but there was some baseball played Sunday That said, we have a recap of how all of the local teams series turned out over the weekend.
USC salvages final game against MSU
USC picked up a much needed win Sunday with a 6-1 win over Mississippi State. The Gamecocks broke open a 1-1 game with 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Tyler Johnson pitched a clean 9th to seal the win. USC is now 8-7 in SEC play, two games behind Kentucky for first place in the East. Next up for them is a home game with Davidson Tuesday night then a road series at Florida next weekend.
Clemson and Florida State even
Clemson’s series with Florida State didn’t start until Saturday. The Tigers won a slug fest in the opening game, 12-10. The Seminoles bounced back in the second game with a 7-3 win. Clemson is 30-6 and 14-3 in the ACC. The rubber game is Monday night in Tallahassee.
Coastal Carolina has another solid series
Coastal Carolina is starting to hit its stride in the Sun Belt. The defending College World Series champs won two of three games against South Alabama and are now 10-4 in league play. The Chanticleers are 22-13 overall. They are at the College of Charleston Wednesday night.
Wofford wins series
Wofford won two of three against UNC-Greensboro in a series that wrapped up Saturday. The Terriers are 5-4 in the SoCon. They play at Winthrop Wednesday night.
College of Charleston runs into a buzz saw
The College of Charleston ended up on the wrong end of a sweep against Northeastern. That put a dent in the Cougars solid run in the Colonial, dropping them to 7-5 in conference play. They are back in action Wednesday against Coastal Carolina.
Tough sledding for The Citadel
The Citadel dropped two of three in its series with Samford and the Bulldogs are now 3-6 in the SoCon. They play at Charleston Southern Tuesday night.
Winthrop sweeps Liberty
Winthrop solid play in the Big South continued with a sweep over Liberty in a series that wrapped up Saturday. The Eagles moved to 8-4 in league play. They are 2-16 overall.
Furman pulls out the brooms
Furman took three games from Western Carolina in a series that gets the Paladins to four wins in the Southern Conference. They play Presbyterian Tuesday night before another weekend SoCon series at home against East Tennessee State.
PC wins Longwood series
Presbyterian dropped the opening game of its series with Longwood, but the Blue Hose won the next two to take the series. They are 8-4 in the Big South and have a game with Furman coming up Tuesday night.
Charleston Southern comes up short
Charleston Southern dropped two of its three games against Gardner-Webb and is now 17-18 overall and 6-9 in the Big South.
