USC has had a rough go of it lately. There was the heartbreaking series loss at Auburn where things came undone in the bottom of the 9th when the Tigers hit a two out three-run homer to win. Then came a series loss to Vanderbilt that featured a one run loss in the opener and an extra inning loss in the second game. The highlight, or lowlight if you will, was the 20-5 boot stomping North Carolina gave them Tuesday in Charlotte.
Those tough pills predictably had some Gamecock baseball fans upset and worried that their beloved team was circling the drain. Despite the tough stretch, Chad Holbrook doesn’t see any reason to panic. He reminded people that despite those losses USC remains a top 15 team, one game out of first place in the SEC with all of their goals still very much within reach.
Here are a few of the reasons Holbrook is confident. Heading into a weekend home series against Mississippi State the Gamecocks are as healthy as they have been all season. Tyler Johnson is back to anchor the bullpen, Clarke Schmidt is sliding back into his regular Friday night starting spot, TJ Hopkins is 100% healthy and some guys are starting to come around up and down the lineup.
