USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley Tuesday was still reveling in her new status of national championship coach. Staley met with the media outside of her office with the net she helped to cut down in Dallas draped around her neck, a reminder of the mountain she had climbed with here staff and players.
Staley confirmed the departure of two eligible players to the WNBA Draft later this month. Standout center Alaina Coates also departs as a senior. But All-American forward A’Ja Wilson returns along with a bevy of talented guards, and Kentucky transfer Alexis Jennings becomes eligible after sitting out this season. Plus, there’s a highly regarded recruiting class coming in. So, Staley is confident a successful defense of her first title is possible.
