The golden road to the NCAA tournament finals got a little bumpier for the Gamecocks women’s basketball team when Aliana Coates re-injured her ankle. Dawn Staley joined SportsTalk on Tuesday to say that the only way for her team to traverse the difficult road ahead is to not try fill the shoes of her star player. Staley said they’ll look to change their approach to the game to fit the players that will walk out on the court on Friday in the first game of the tournament. Part of the change offense for the Gamecocks relies on shift in focus from Coates to freshman Tyasha Harris.
Harris helped the Gamecocks the first time Coates when down by rallying with a five game winning streak including an SEC Championship. They’ll need to win five straight again if they intend to make an appearance at Championship finals in Dallas on April 2nd.
