USC opens the SEC season Friday at Tennessee and has some momentum built up after the lost weekend to Clemson. Since then the Gamecocks have won four in a row while their last two games were postponed due to weather.
Coach Chad Holbrook met with reporters Wednesday and gave an injury update. The biggest news is that reliever Tyler Johnson remains out with a sore forearm and they will give him as much time as necessary before putting him back on the mound.
The news on centerfield TJ Hopkins, who is dealing with a quad, is only marginally better as Holbrook said he wouldn’t know his status until after practices today and Thursday. He’s hopeful he will make the trip.
Second baseman LT Tolbert, who suffered a jammed thumb in Saturday’s win over Michigan State, should be fine according to Holbrook.
As for making up those postponements, Holbrook said they will reschedule with Furman at Fluor Field in Greenville and he’s reached out to numerous in state schools, including Coastal Carolina, in an attempt to schedule a home game to replace the Michigan State game.
