USC hit two major goals with the win at Mississippi State Saturday night, 20 overall wins and 10 wins in the SEC. Both are heady numbers for the program, and Frank Martin, of course, wants to add more wins to both columns. But Monday he said to do so his team has to become more consistent with its outside shooting, and he’s got to get more quality minutes from his first year players.
Martin also said senior guard Sindarius Thornwell has to be considered a strong candidate for SEC Player of the Year. Thornwell was named Monday at the SEC Player of the Week after averaging 36 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games.
The Gamecocks return to action Wednesday night at home against Arkansas. USC remains in a first place tie in the SEC with Kentucky and Florida and is ranked 19th by the coaches and 21st by the AP.
