The odds already were stacked against USC going into last Saturday’s game at Kentucky, and the loss of guard PJ Dozier to back spasms didn’t help. Dozier was hit with the ailment for the first time in his career on the trip to Lexington and the pain remained too intense for him to play.
Monday Gamecock coach Frank Martin said the pain had subsided but Dozier remained sore. He was hoping to get Dozier a full practice on Monday afternoon and that would lead to his return to the lineup Tuesday night against Auburn.
The Gamecocks remain in second place in the SEC behind Kentucky and in the national polls at #23 and #24. And they moved up in the RPI to #20. The latest tournament bracketology by Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com has the Gamecocks as a #7 seed and playing Kansas State in Orlando.
