Through the first ten games of the season, USC’s defense good enough. The Gamecocks held three of their opponents under 20 points and all of them under 29.
Then came games 11 and 12 and the defense was picked apart by Western Carolina and Clemson to the tune of 80 points (WCU got 7 more on a kickoff return) and nearly 1000 total yards.
The Gamecock’s defensive pride was torched in those two games, and during what was a physical bowl camp, USC head coach Will Muschamp sought to rediscover a defense that lost its edge.
He’ll find out Thursday against one of the nation’s best offenses if he was successful.
After Tuesday’s practice at Birmingham Southern, several Gamecock defense players met with the media and they all sounded confident that the defense is back.
