USC target DE Matthew Butler of Garner, NC won’t play for the Gamecocks, but he will play against them. Butler announced a commitment to Tennessee Wednesday at a press conference at his school. He also considered Duke, NC State, Penn State and Texas A&M. The Shrine Bowler had 90 tackles this season with 26 sacks. With Butler off the board, the Gamecocks will continue to recruit defensive ends Brad Johnson of Pendleton, Jaylen Twyman of Washington, DC, Devonte Wyatt of Decatur, GA and Aaron Sterling of Tucker, GA. Committed DE MJ Webb already has joined the program as an early signee. The Gamecocks also have a defensive end commitment in Shrine Bowler Tyreek Johnson of Lakewood.
USC commitment DB Tavyn Jackson of Tallahassee announced Tuesday night he has completed the recruiting process and is set with USC. Jackson took an official visit to Maryland earlier this month and considered taking others in January besides a January 14th trip to USC, but he wrote on Twitter he’s all set with the Gamecocks. “I would like to thank the University of South Carolina for everything,” Jackson wrote in part. “Times come where things happen and many things change, but I’m here to say I’m 10,000% committed to the University of South Carolina.
Clemson and USC missed out on 2018 OL Will Lawrence of Memphis when he announced his final five Tuesday. Those five are Arizona State, LSU, Michigan, North Carolina and Ohio State. He plans a decision by February. Lawrence had attended summer camps at Clemson.
