With an ACC Championship and a nearly perfect regular season under their belt, the Clemson Tigers are headed to the College Football Playoff for the second-straight season.
The No. 2 Tigers (12-1) are preparing to take on the No. 3 Buckeyes (11-1) in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl and will lean on the experience of seniors Jordan Leggett, Carlos Watkins and Jay Guillermo, who all made the trip to Glendale, Ariz., last season.
“Last year, losing in Arizona was tough. We definitely want to lock in and stay focused and try to get back to the Natty,” Watkins said. “There’s definitely another level we can get too. We won the game you know. (Virginia Tech) got a few penalties and big plays on us. We didn’t play bad defensively, but if we get those little things corrected, we can definitely have another level.”
As for their opponent, the Tigers are very familiar with the Ohio State Buckeyes and have noticed several similarities between both teams.
“Obviously, a real blue collar team,” Guillermo said. “Similar to us whenever you just kind of look at what they try and accomplish. They’re a good football team. Once again, hard nose. They’ve got really good both sides of the ball, in the trenches, you know, offensive line, defensive line. I think they’re pretty young defensively. But the coaches do a good job and we can’t wait to play them.”
Clemson will face Ohio State at University of Phoenix Stadium at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31, with the winner advancing to the National Championship on Jan. 9.
