Clemson coach Dabo Swinney once considered hiring Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente as his offensive coordinator. Now will try to beat him to win the Tigers’ second straight ACC championship.
Fuente, who won the Coastal Division in his first season with the Hokies, spent a night at Clemson with his wife during the interview process when Swinney eventually hired Chad Morris. Fuente then was the offensive coordinator at TCU.
Fuente went on to become the head coach at Memphis where he turned around that program and has gotten off to a great start as the replacement at Virginia Tech for legendary coach Frank Beamer.
Fuente and Swinney talked about Saturday’s game during an ACC conference call Sunday afternoon.
