DB Xavier McKinney of Roswell, GA made an unofficial visit to Clemson last weekend arriving Saturday for the game and staying overnight. It was not his first visit to Clemson but it might have been his best considering the atmosphere for the game and what he learned from the coaches.
“I had a fun time like always,” McKinney said. “This was my first game experience and it lived up to my expectations. It was everything that I thought it would be. It was super loud, one of the loudest that I’ve been to. The fans were great.”
McKinney was welcomed into the locker room after the game and he also found time to talk with Dabo Swinney Brent Venables and Mike Reed to hear their recruiting pitch again.
“Basically that they want me and they need me,” McKinney said. “They think I could be a great fit into how they play. They want me to join the people that have already committed in that class.”
Clemson is one of the five finalists for McKinney along with Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Despite the big time on the visit, McKinney said the Tigers have not separated from the others.
“It didn’t really influence anything really,” he said. “My top five is even. There was nothing really that put them above anybody because I haven’t been to everybody yet.”
McKinney has also been to Tennessee for a game. He has not yet set the dates for his official visits with his five finalists. He is going to Florida this weekend for the LSU game. He’s going to Ohio State for the Nebraska game. He only plans official visits to Georgia and Alabama.
