Saturday night’s showdown with Louisville presented Clemson with another perfect backdrop for entertaining top recruits. One of those in the building was 2018 DL Josh Belk of Lewisville. He’s one of the top prospects in the state for his class with offers from Clemson, USC, Ohio State, North Carolina, LSU, NC State, Virginia Tech, Auburn and others.
“I just like the environment at Clemson,” Belk said. “It’s pretty cool. And the coaches, they stay on their players, not just on the field but in the classroom and the development of them as men. Some of the coaches were joking about they started to come up into the stands and suit me up. I asked about going around and getting a tour of the campus and getting to know more about their program and they said after the season would be better when I can get more one on one time.”
Belk also has visited USC and has the Gamecocks high up on his list as well at this point. He was last there for the East Carolina game last month.
“The coaches and I have a good relationship,” Belk said. “There is something about the coaches down there.” Belk said it’s possible he’ll be back at USC this Saturday for the Georgia game.
He recognizes the Clemson and USC programs are on different levels right now but that’s not the only factor he’s weighing as he compares those two against each other and the others.
“With Clemson, I just look at the fact that they put ten defensive linemen in the NFL in the past two years,” he said. “That stood out to me. And the new facility that they are building, I think I’m going to like that a lot.”
Belk lists Clemson, USC and Ohio State as his top three, but not in any order. He plans to visit each next year for official visits. Ohio State was in to check on him last week and Clemson’s Dan Brooks scouted him last Friday night.
So far this season Belk estimates he has around 40 tackles and 6 sacks.
