Once again Friday Twitter reared its ugly head in recruiting.
Last Sunday DB Tancey Richardson of South Aiken announced a commitment to USC on Twitter only to learn a couple of days later that the Gamecocks weren’t ready to take his pledge. In fact, USC coach Will Muschamp never acknowledged the commitment with his “Spurs Up” tweet for taking a commitment.
Friday afternoon, however, Muschamp did send out an alert, apparently for DB Zay Brown (6-0 180) of Athens, GA. Brown tweeted something in response to the “Spurs Up” but quickly removed the tweet from his page. And as of Friday afternoon Brown would not confirm that he’s the commitment.
“I’ll let you know July 23rd,” Brown said. “That’s when I’m visiting with my family. I will announce it July 23rd if I did or not.”
Muschamp is hosting a recruiting party for top prospects on July 23rd.
Brown was offered last Saturday after working out at one of the Muschamp camps. He also has offers from Colorado State, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Miami of Ohio, Georgia State and Western Kentucky. He’s being recruited as a safety and had 78 tackles with 6 interceptions last season.
