He did it again. Coastal Carolina pitcher Andrew Beckwith tossed his second complete game victory of the College World Series Friday night as the Chanticleers defeated TCU 4-1. That forced a third game in Omaha between the Chanticleers and Horned Frogs Saturday night at 8:00 PM and the winner will advance to the championship series starting Monday night. Arizona and Oklahoma State will play Saturday afternoon for the other spot in the series.
Beckwith, who threw a complete game in the win over Florida last Sunday night, was simply incredible Friday night. Of his 137 pitches, 101 went for strikes. He scattered six hits, struck out five and walked only one.
The Chants scored the only runs they would need in the third. Anthony Marks got the first run home with a squeeze bunt for a hit. Connor Owings drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly.
The bottom of the lineup delivered insurance runs in the seventh. The number eight hitter Billy Cooke made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly and he was followed by Daniel Parrett with a run scoring ground-rule double to left.
That was more than enough for Beckwith to work with and he had enough gas in the tank to finish the job and run his record on the season to 14-1.
