With the man who hired him at USC looking on, Frank Martin got the best performance of the season out of his team Wednesday night in a 80-52 victory over Texas A&M, the Gamecocks’ first SEC win of the season.
Aggie athletics director Eric Hyman, who hired Martin when he was the AD at USC, made the trip to Columbia and spent much of his time chatting with USC women’s coach Dawn Staley while his team was being taken apart by the Gamecocks.
Four Gamecocks scored in double figures with Sindarius Thornwell and Duane Notice sharing honors with 19 each.
The Gamecocks improve to 8-12 and 1-6 in the SEC. The Aggies have dropped four in a row and are 12-8 and 3-4 in league play.
USC built a big halftime lead, weathered a mild second half move by the Aggies and cruised home to the win to snap a six game losing streak, all in SEC play.
