USC assistant Steve Spurrier Jr. told SportsTalk Monday that he would be interested in the offensive coordinator vacancy at Duke. He said he has not been contacted about the post, but would listen if anyone from the school reached out to him. Spurrier Jr. played at Duke and his dad coached there. The Spurrier’s are also friends with current Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe.

Duke is searching for a replacement for Kurt Roper, who left for the same job at Florida.  The Blue Devils are coming off on of their best regular seasons in recent memory. The won 10 games, a run that earned them a spot in the ACC Championship Game and an invite to the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve against Texas A&M.

Spurrier Jr. currently holds the title of co-offensive coordinator,  passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach with the Gamecocks.

  1. Alan Pavon says:

I hope Steve Spurrier Jr. remains at South Carolina. But if he decides to move on, than I hope he is a candidate to succeed THE HBC when he retires. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  2. Really? I think SC could find him some more money.

  3. If Jr is going to be a HC here or anywhere, he’s going to have to be an OC first. If he does an outstanding job as an OC, it would certainly put him on the list of candidates to replace his dad here.
