The Tigers retake the lead early in the quarter with an 8 play, 48 yard drive that Boyd caps with a 6 yard run. Boyd had a 19 yard pass to Stanton Seckinger that went to the Boston College 13 yard line and set up the scoring run. Clemson leads 17-14 with 13:44 to play.
Two minutes later the Clemson defense comes thru with a huge play. Tony Steward sacks Rettig and forces a fumble which was scooped up by Vic Beasley and returned 13 yards for a touchdown. Clemson leads 24-14.
That would be the final score of the day. Boston College did have one final threat late in the game as Amidon broke free on a run around the right side that carried deep into Clemson territory, but it was wiped out by a holding call.
Clemson finished with 496 yards. Boyd was 30-44 for 344 yards. BC was held to 286 yards. Williams, the nations’ leading rusher coming in at 153 yards per game, managed just 70 yards on 24 carries.
