Sophomore DE Shamiek Blackshear of Bluffton was offered on Thursday by Florida State according to his coach Ken Cribb. The Seminoles join USC, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State and Florida as early offers for Blackshear who some are calling the best player in the state regardless of class. Blackshear went to USC and Clemson for games last season and was at USC’s junior day last month. He is expected to be at Clemson Saturday for a small gathering of prospects along with his junior teammate DL KJ Ford. Cribb says USC remains the team to beat for Blackshear right now. “He was a Gamecock fan as a kid growing up,” Cribb said. “But he’s interested in looking at all his options and going thru the process, so you never know.” National recruiting analyst Tom Lemming was by the school recently to meet with the players who have been invited to the upcoming Under Armour combine. Ford is still waiting for his first major offer. Cribb said NC State is showing strong interest and wants him to come to a junior day. He has been to USC and North Carolina for junior days. And Appalachian State called about him earlier this week.

DL Lamont Gaillard (6-4 312) of Fayetteville, NC has had a big week thus far in landing offers, and the week’s not over. Thursday he was at USC to watch practice and was offered by the Gamecocks. He’s also picked up offers from Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, NC State, Florida State, East Carolina and Boston College. Saturday Gaillard will visit Clemson and is expected to pick up an offer from the Tigers. Last season he had 78 tackles with 7 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

ATH Artavis Scott of Tarpon Springs, FL says he’s talking a lot with Clemson these days, to the tune of about twice a week. He attended Clemson’s junior day last month. “I like them a lot,” Scott said of Clemson. “I can’t really say anything right now. They are in the process.” Scott also went to Louisville’s junior day. He has no future visits planned. His offer list includes Clemson, USC, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Tennessee, Louisville, Miami and Oklahoma. Scott does not have favorites and he said he won’t announce a decision until the Army All American Game in January.

WR Thaddeus Snodgrass of Springfield, OH has a new top five of USC, Penn State, Louisville, West Virginia and Kentucky.  He plans to be at Kentucky Saturday for the Florida basketball game.
