Scott Firth had his second straight strong outing on the mound pitching eight shutout innings as Clemson defeated Wright State 7-0 Sunday to complete a three game sweep of the Raiders at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers also shutout the Raiders Saturday in game two of a doubleheader giving the Tigers back to back shutouts for the first time since 2009.
Firth allowed just five singles and two walks while striking out four in the longest outing of his career. Firth needed just 87 pitches in winning for the 13th time in 15 career decisions.
Firth got defensive help from freshman rightfielder Steven Duggar who threw out two runners at the plate.
Seven Tigers had a hit apiece with Jay Baum and Shane Kennedy each driving in two. Duggar scored twice.
Clemson is 5-1 and will host Winthrop Tuesday afternoon.
