USC’s tough SEC sledding continued with a 77-55 loss at defending national champion Kentucky Tuesday night. The Gamecocks have dropped three straight games (@Florida, Georgia, @UK) by an average of 24 points. They are now 12-10 overall and 2-7 in the SEC.
Once again freshman Forward Michael Carrera was one of the few bright sports. He led the Gamecocks with 18 points and six rebounds. He’s been the team’s leading scorer in each of the past three games. No other player reached double figures in scoring. Bruce Ellington was the second highest scorer and he barely played in the first half because of foul trouble. He finished with nine points.
Another bright spot for the Gamecocks: They committed just seven turnovers. Other than that it was another game in which they were clearly overmatched. The Wildcats led45-24 at the half and were never seriously threatened in the final 20 minutes. The closest the Gamecocks got in the second half was 15 points.
USC is back home Sunday to face Tennessee.
