Coming off its best performance of the season in the win over Arkansas, the USC basketball team faces one of the hottest teams in the country Wednesday night in the Florida Gators. The Gamecocks will travel to Gainesville for their only meeting of the season with the Gators who are ranked 4th nationally this week and are on an 8 game winning streak.
Not only are the Gators winning, they are winning big. No one has come withing 17 points of Florida during the winning streak. The Gators beat Georgia by 33, Missouri by 31, and in their last outing on Saturday, they blew out Mississippi State in Starkville by 35 points.
That’s just a sampling of how dominant Billy Donovan’s team has been during this run. And the Gators have clamped down on their opponents defensively, especially in SEC play where opponents are averaging just 48 points per game. Florida is wining by an average margin of over 22 points per game.
And the Gators can still score the ball. As a team they are shooting over 49% from the floor, 38% on three pointers, and 71% from the line. Four Gators average in double figures led by Kenny Boynton’s 13.6 points per game.
Florida has won three in a row over the Gamecocks and 10 of the last 13 meetings. The Gators lead the series 39-22. USC’s last win in the O’Connell Center was in 2011.
USC is looking for its first win over a nationally ranked team since March of 2010. Earlier this season they led at nationally ranked Missouri by 13 points before losing by six.
